A simplistic tool

For every crossword puzzle or Scrabble game, there’s software or algorithm that solves it. Wordsearch solver is such a tool for problems up to 100 x 100 large.

Simple to use

There are two ways you can use this programme’s only function: inputting a puzzle and finding words amongst the letters in it. You can choose to scan it and save it as a TXT file that you upload into the programme or type it manually.

While the former solution is quicker, it sometimes causes the software to send an incorrect ‘No Results’ message. This error doesn’t happen with the latter, where you specify the dimensions of the puzzle and create it yourself.

The next step is to type in the word you’re looking for, and the programme will highlight it accurately in no time. While it is buggy at times, it’s good at what it does.

Old PCs only

Wordsearch Solver is quite lightweight, and it makes sense. It’s designed for older Windows PCs and doesn’t run on newer or alternative operating systems. You can only use it on Windows up to XP.

Stripped-down user interface

Considering it’s for old computers, the UI resembles the look of Windows 95 applications, with grey, simple fields and no bells and whistles.

Unfortunately, there’s no help file or prompts once you launch the programme. However, the functions are so few that this lack thereof doesn’t represent much of a problem.

Too limited

This tool is not as easy to use as it could be, and the functions are too limited to justify a download. You could get the same functionalities from Word Search Solver by dCode or Word Scramble Solver, which you can both run as web apps from your browser.
