RTS games such as Stronghold Crusader are challenging, as you have many aspects to manage at the same time. You’ll have to build a castle complete with defenses and siege engines as you complete the four historical campaign missions. The story documents the first, second, and third crusades as well as several conflicts with other crusader states.
There is a massive selection of units you can use to fight the crusades or defend your fortress. These include the fighting troops such as archers, maceman, spearman, crossbowman, and knight. You also have a variety of units like the engineer and tunneler that you can use when sieging a fortress.
Build your fortress
A significant aspect of the game is building your castle and selecting other buildings that you can use to grow an army or raise capital. You can set up a dairy farm to increase food production, or a Hop Farm that brews drinks. You’ll also need to build a stronghold or keep that serves as a final layer of protection from invaders.
As Stronghold Crusader is an old game, it lacks modern graphics or a high resolution. The HD rerelease of the game solved this issue with a higher map resolution that allows players to see the whole map at once.
The campaigns have a well laid out story, with intriguing characters such as The Rat, a young boy that grew up impoverished but came into money. The game is a challenging one that requires proper planning if you want to survive the crusades. However, due to its age, it lacks modern graphics.
