IGI 2: Covert Strike

First-person shooting game

IGI 2: Covert Strike is a first-person shooting game where you play an elite agent who is tasked with stopping World War III from happening. The game was developed by Innerloop Studios and published by Codemasters for the Windows XP but is now available in Windows 7 to Windows 10. While it has a total of 19 missions to complete and multiple side missions to take, it only takes up 128 megabytes of RAM and 1.5 gigabytes of your system’s storage. It is a lightweight game where you can find your playstyle. Whether you tread carefully or charge towards opponents with a gun, you can test its efficiency against bots or with other online gamers.

IGI 2 immediately sets you up for a challenging gameplay as it does not have a tutorial at the start of the game. Similar to other tactical shooter games, it uses the WASD keys to move around and the mouse to point and click items. What is mentioned, however, is that you are an elite agent named David Jones. The context or goal of each mission is provided for you during the cutscenes.

Although it is not a tutorial, the scenes let you know what you can and cannot do during the missions. Once the missions begin, you will be pitted against other non-playable characters or bots. The artificial technology built into this game is passable. For example, you’re taking down your opponents and begin engaging in close combat with one of them. A single shot or blow on an A.I character will not take him down so you need to stay and make sure he’s been knocked out.

Your effect on the NPCs can take some time, but your character can be shot down very easily. Any bullet that heads towards Jones is fatal. Whether he’s standing, crouching, or crawling, a shot from an enemy can set you back to the last saved mission. It is then more important to create an offensive strategy for every mission. You can use various weapons, camouflage, and other accessories to get ahead of your enemies.
